Yiasou guys!
My name is Nick Argirou but most of you may know me as Nikolopaa on my socials. Nikolopa was my great Papou’s name (my Yiayias father). As many of my recipes are handed-down family recipes, it was only fitting that I applied the same history to my brand.
I have always had a passion for cooking. At age 22, my wife and I bought a Charcoal Chicken and Seafood takeaway shop. This is where my confidence and passion cooking with charcoal grew. We both worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for 3 years and during this time, we truly understood how important time with family and friends was.
When I think of food, I think of family, friends, happiness, and love. There is nothing better than preparing and consuming good food with the best company to share it with. Food truly brings people together.
In most families, it is the older generations who provide that traditional culture environment. As time passes, this environment changes. But this is where I find it my purpose to capture, preserve and teach the cultural traditions and keep my Yiayia and Papou’s legacies alive. With that, here I am.
It’s Bloody Beautiful Mate
It's bloody beautiful mate stemmed from my personal observation of Greek migrants living in Australia, expressing their enjoyment in watching food cook and being consumed. This saying is a play on the accent of those observations, which initially started out as a joke but has now turned into Nikolopaa's catch phrase. (and let's not ignore that the recipes on this site are infact bloody beautiful mate *wink*).
What you’ll find on this site
I love sharing traditional and authentic Greek and Cypriot recipes. My recipes vary from cooking a delicious range of meats on the charcoal, to baking popular desserts in the home oven!
